The JdS (Journées de Statistique)

The Journées de Statistique (JdS) (JdS), organized since 1970 by the Société Française de Statistique (SFdS), is the unmissable event for the French-speaking statistical community, gathering each year between 400 and 500 researchers, teachers, practitioners, and professionals from various fields. It is a privileged place for exchanges and discussions on advances and applications in statistics, with particular attention given to the integration of young members into this community.

The Jeunes Statisticien·ne·s group actively participates in the JdS to encourage exchanges and networking between young statisticians and all participants. The group notably organizes scientific lunches, a format introduced at the 49th JdS, aimed at creating a space for small group discussions on a current scientific topic. Each lunch is led by two recognized experts in the field, with a member of the group moderating the discussions. The event begins with an introduction to the topic, followed by a roundtable, open questions and answers, and a coffee break for informal discussions. The Young Statisticians Group also organizes a Special Session to encourage discussions on current topics and specific concerns of young researchers in statistics.

The group also organizes the Young Statistician/Invited Speaker Meetings, a founding event since the JdS 2012 in Brussels. These meetings, held every Thursday evening during the JdS, provide young statisticians the opportunity to interact directly and informally with invited speakers. It is a unique moment to ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere, discuss potential collaboration opportunities, or simply engage in conversations on diverse topics.
