Young Statisticians Session by the Young Statisticians Group
Every year, during the Journées de Statistique (JdS), the SFdS Young Statisticians Group organizes a specific session dedicated to young researchers, called the "Young Statisticians Session." This session aims to create a space for discussion and reflection on current issues affecting the community of young statisticians. It is designed to foster exchanges between young researchers and the broader scientific community while highlighting relevant themes related to their concerns and the challenges in statistical research.
The topics addressed are often cross-cutting and aim to tackle social, ethical, professional, or scientific issues encountered by young researchers in their academic journey. The sessions are led by speakers recognized in their respective fields, allowing for experience sharing and constructive discussion.
Session 2024
For the 2024 edition of the 55th Journées de Statistique, the Young Statisticians Group is organizing a session on a crucial and timely theme: Everyday Sexism, Gender-based Violence and Sexual Harassment, and Gender Bias. What is the Current Situation in Academic Research in France? .
This 1 hour and 15-minute session will address issues related to gender inequalities and sexist behaviors in academic research, a topic that has become central for many scientific institutions. The session will feature two speakers:
- Audrey Lavenu, IRMAR, University of Rennes 1
- Margaux Zaffran, Center for Applied Mathematics - École Polytechnique
The speakers will discuss the challenges faced by women and gender minorities in academia and suggest pathways toward greater inclusion and equity in scientific research. The session will take place in room Fabre, on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 16:40 to 17:55 .
